Basic Snow Blower Maintenance List

Snow blowers, like lawn mowers, are one of those things we don't think about until we need them and we need them working. We've gotten a good bit of snow in St. Louis this winter (with more expected), so snow blowers are becoming something we all think about. It's one thing to shovel the driveway once; it's quite another to have to shovel it several weeks in a row.

Keeping your snow blower well-maintained will mean you're prepared when the snow comes. Hang that snow shovel up, and take care of this instead:
  • Check that the machine is starting up right away.
  • Change the spark plug if you haven't in a season or more.
  • Change the oil if you haven't since last season.
  • Check the blades for any rips or tears. Replace if damaged.
  • Check for and tighten any loose nuts and bolts.
  • Add fuel stabilizer to keep your fuel fresh between uses.
